Wimal to Ranil : Reveal secret pacts with Thondaman and Hakeem

by Anura Maitipe

The UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe should reveal his secret pact with CWC leader Arumugan Thondaman and SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem to the voters and their demands must be placed before the voters, parliamentarian and the JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa urged at a news conference held at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) last week.

He said even the UNP parliamentarians were not aware of this pact signed with Thondaman and Hakeem. If it is for the well being of the people and the country why cannot he place it before the voters, he asked.

The UNP leader is not a trustworthy politician at all. He has proved it by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the LTTE. He signed it even without informing his Cabinet. It is a lopsided agreement and it has given a free hand to the LTTE to carry arms and perpetrate killings in every part of the country but Sri Lankan forces had to fully adhere to peace.

The Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) has been violated by the LTTE over a hundred odd times and monitors themselves have never been able to impose their will on them. The proof of this is the murder of 60 intelligence personnel and Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar. This was a far reaching consequence of this agreement signed by Ranil Wickremesinghe and the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran.

We have documentary proof that the UNP government led by Ranil Wickremesinghe has provided Rs.8 million worth of Urea to the LTTE. The LTTE has made use of it to manufacture bombs not for paddy farming. The LTTE has not paid for this and it is a Rs.8 million loss to the state coffers. In addition to that it was a severe threat to the country's security.
