Four-in-one Junior Swimming Championships Nov. 10 to 12

The Junior Aquatic Championships conducted by the Interim Committee of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) have included for the first time woterpolo and synchronised swimming in addition to the normal swimming and diving events to be held from November 10 to 12 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Pool.

It will be similler to the Senior National Aquatic Championships concluded two weeks ago. Samantha Wickremasinghe, Secretary Interim Committee SLASU said that circulars and entry forms had already been circulated amongst the affiliate members. Entries close tomorrow (Monday) November, 7 at the SLASU Administrative Office, Reid Avenue, Colombo 7.

A swimmer may enter up to a maximum of five events. However, a team could enter a maximum of five competitors per event. All heats/preliminaries will be held during the morning session commencing at 9.00 a. m. The final will be held in the afternoon session commencing at 2.30 p.m.

Thirteen events for both boys and girls will be worked off. There will be a total of 26 events. Events - 400 metres freestyle, 200 metres individual medley, 50 metres breast stroke, back stroke, freestyle, 4 x 50 metres free style relay, 200 metres freestyle, 100 metres butterfly stroke, breast stroke, back stroke, 100 metres freestyle, 4 x 50 metres medley relay. The 400 metres freestyle and 200 metres freestyle both boys and girls will be held as timed finals.

The relays will be held as timed finals as in the order of events. The names of those participating in a relay meet should be submitted at least one hour before the start of the event in the order they will swim, in the case of medley relay swimmers must be listed in their respective stroke.

The award of points will be as follows: (for overall championships) Individual events-First place (10 points), second (7), third (6), fourth (5), fifth (4), sixth (3), seventh (2), eighth (1). Relays-First (20), second (15), third (13), fourth (10), fifth (8), sixth (6), seventh (4) and eighth (2).

Ananda and Mahamaya champs

Last year, Ananda College and Mahamaya College Kandy emerged boys and girls overall champions. They were presented the SLASU challenge trophies.

Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College and Prabha Madhavi Dharmadasa of Asian International School were selected the champion boys and girls swimmer of the meet.

Diving

Only two diving events will be conducted-one metre and three metre spring board.

The one-metre spring board will be held on October 10 at 11 a.m.

The three-metre spring board diving will be on October 11 at 11 a.m. For both boys and girls. The winners will be decided after seven dives are completed on both events.

The overall champions will be decided on points-First place (10-points), second (7) and third (5). In diving Royal and Ananda Vidyalaya emerged champions in diving.

Waterpolo

The finals of the boys and girls knock out waterpolo championships will be played on November 12.

The girls final at 11 a.m. and boys final at 5 p.m.

Synchronised swimming

The Synchronised Swimming Competition will take place on November 11 and 12 from 2.30 p.m. at 4.30 p.m. The draw will be held on November 10 at 4.30 p.m.

The four events are solo, duets, teams and routine combination. All competitors should perform 30 minutes before the winners are found.
