Pubudu Wanigasekera wins a 'double' at NSBC

Pubudu Wanigasekera of Lake House won a 'double' (womens singles and mixed doubles) at the Nationalised Services Badminton Championships (NSBC) staged at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia last week.

Pubudu won the singles beating W. G. Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon in straight sets (11-4, 11-2), while partnered by Asanka Pieris also of Lake House won the mixed doubles beating Heshan de Silva (LT) and M. N. A. Bandara of the Water Board also in straight sets (15-3, 15-1).

She missed winning the 'triple' after partnered by P. K. Ekanayake (CPC) lost in the final to Bank of Ceylon's W. G. Liyanage and Lasanthi Vidanage 4-15, 11-15 in the women's doubles.

Dilan Yasantha of Petroleum Corporation won the men's singles beating M. T. U. M. Thudugala of Ports Authority in straight sets (15-1, 15-3), while the later partnered by Chamila Kurapanawala also of Ports Authority won the mens doubles in straight sets (15-10, 15-4) over P. Liyanawatte and Sangeeth Wanasinghe also of Ports Authority.

Damith Leelaratne (PB) won the Veterans men's singles beating Prince Perera of Ports Authority (15-13, 15-5), while the veterans men's doubles was won by Amith Perera of NSB and S. Jayanthasiri of CTB over P. Senanayake of Petroleum and Prince Perera of Ports Authority at 15-10, 15-8.

Ramani Gunasekera of NSB won the veterans women's singles beating W. G. Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon in a three-setter (11-4, 11-13, 11-8), while the veterans women's doubles was won by the NSB duo of Ramani Gunasekera and Nilanthi Sumanasekera in straight sets (15-4, 15-1).

CTB's W. S. Jayanthasiri won the master's singles beating A. G. Dayaratne of Bank of Ceylon at 15-12, 15-4, while the master's Doubles was won by A. G. S. Dayaratne of Bank of Ceylon and J. J. Samuel of the Ports Authority over the Petroleum duo of Sunil Tennekoon and P. Senanayake at 15-10, 15-13).
