Yvonne, son Romesh overall champions

A former national champion Yvonne Abhayaratne and her younger son Romesh emerged the overall womens and mens champions at the 6th Annual AMCHAM Suntel Charity Golf Championships on the Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) last week.

Both Yvonne Abhayaratne and Mrs. H. R. Bang ended with 23 points each, but the former was adjudged the winner on a better back 9. Romesh Abhayaratne won the overall title for men with 34 points from Sanjeewa Wickremanayake who had 33 points.

However, Sanjeewa Wickremanayake (23 points) won the AMCHAM Member (Gross Score) with Anil Hirdaramani (20 points) as the runner-up.

In the Mens Section, Romesh Abhayaratne with 40 points won the 'A' Division from Sanjeewa Wickremanayake (38), while the 'B' Division was won by Gong Feng (39 points) from Gerard Amarasinghe (38 points). Kamlesh Johnpillai won the 'C' Division with 45 points with Roshan Perera collecting 43 points.

Yvonne Abhayaratne with 36 points won the Silver Division for Ladies on a better back 9 from Mrs. H. R. Bang, while the Bronze Division was won by Sandry Ramanayake with 45 points from Manouri Jayakody who had 40 points.

J. M. C. Perera won the Seniors Division with 34 points on a better back 9 from Indy Perayeraway, while Shavindra Fonseka with 39 points won the Juniors Division from Rowan Northcott (37 points). J. M. D. Indika with gross 71 was the best of the pool players followed by N. Amarapathma (gross 72), while Kushal Johnpillai (322 yards) had the Longest Drive on the 8th Hole, while D. M. Hettiaratchi (2.3 feet) was the Nearest to the Pin at the 16th Hole.

Proceeds from this year's event is to be donated to the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama. During the six years, AMCHAM, has supported many worthy causes, raising nearly Rs. 2 million for the Young Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka, the Jaipur Limbs Foundation for the Disabled, Castle Street Maternity Hospital, School for the Deaf and the Navajeewana Centre for the Mentally and Physically handicapped.

Suntel's Managing Director, Jerry Huxtable, was delighted with the success of the tournament, while Gorden Glick, Executive Director of AMCHAM, was also thrilled with the success of the event and thanked the many AMCHAM member companies that assisted. He also thanked Suntel.

There was a variety of valuable prizes, including multiple airline tickets to USA and other destinations, hotel and dinner vouchers, electronic goods and many more.
