Much scope for Lanka's accounting services abroad Sri Lanka can export its professional services to the world market and accounting services is one such sector which has many opportunities, Chairman, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Deva Rodrigo told the 13th Convocation of the AAT Sri Lanka. The Government launched a national initiative to export professional services and Sri Lanka can export accounting, taxation, engineering, ITC and media services to the international market at competitive rates, he said. Rodrigo also pointed out the tremendous opportunities available in construction related services in the Middle East. Two-hundred students who completed the AAT final examination received awards and certificates at the convocation at the BMICH last Monday. The president of the AAT Ashoka Jayasinghe said that the number of passed finalists since the inception of the institute had exceeded 6,500. Many of them went for higher professional examinations benefiting from the exemptions granted by these professional bodies. AAT is used as a solid foundation for these professional courses. Others have found employment as accounting technicians and have been successful in furthering their career, Jayasinghe said. President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), the parent body of the AAT, Indrajith Fernando in his message to the convocation said that AAT was promoted by the Institute to meet the needs of accounting technicians in the country. AAT qualified persons can further their career by sitting ICASL examinations. Fernando said that the ICA in England and Wales has recognised that the ICSL qualification has widened the opportunity for its members globally. GW |
