JHU warns of misleading Ads Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) charged that the UNP and a leading businessman were trying to mislead the Catholic and Christian community by provoking religious disharmony between the Buddhist and the Catholics. Commenting on a recent advertisement by the Society for Love and Understanding carrying a letter by Archbishop Oswald Gomis, JHU Parliamentary Group Leader Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera said a shameless attempt was being made to provoke religious disharmony to gain political advantage. "The UNP and some extremist individuals connected to a leading entrepreneur is campaigning among the Catholic communities in Putttalam, Chilaw and Negombo spreading false allegations that the UPFA candidate's victory would restrict religious and cultural rights of the Catholics," he said. He further accused the Society for Love and Understanding of trying to influence the Catholics' right of free vote by publishing statements by the Archbishop and linking religion with politics. The Thera pointed out that the Archbishop too should have abstained from making such statements. |
