Hettigoda confident of victory by Ananda Kannangara Eksath Lanka Podujana Party (ELPP), Presidential candidate Victor Hettigoda on Thursday expressed his dissatisfaction over presenting a budget on the eve of a Presidential Election and said that it was a violation of democratic principles. "The Finance Minister could have presented a "Mini Budget" like former Finance Minister Dr. N. N. Perera " he said. Asked how he could pardon LTTERs as they killed a large number of people during the past 20 years, Hettigoda said that it was difficult to solve this nature of major issues by taking the past incidents into consideration over and over again. "The ideal way was to restart friendship with them for the benefit of future generation in our motherland," he said. When asked about his victory at the election, Hettigoda said that he was confident of his victory and assured that more than 62 per cent people in the country would vote for him on the grounds that people have no faith in the promises pledged by the main candidates. "Lack of development in the agricultural and the industrial sectors in the country has become a big problem today. Due to this the unemployment problem and the cost of living had drastically gone up," he said. "Farmers are in a state of deep despair. I hope to set up Grain Banks in each village to promote the agricultural sector. Farmers can obtain loans at low interest rates from these banks and also sell their agricultural products to these banks," he added. |
