Lankan women lose badly again

by Ranjan Anandappa

The England Women's cricket team won the limited overs cricket series 2-0 defeating the Sri Lanka Women's team by 99 runs in their second Limited Over International played at the R. Premadasa Stadium ,Khettarama yesterday.

The Lankans gave an improved display restricting their opponents for 206 for 9 in their 50 overs after sending them in first to bat, but their batting resources were simply inadequate to score the required runs to win.

Only Dedunu de Silva (13), Sandamali Dolawatte (10) and Swini de Alwis (29) entered double figures for the home team. Swini de Alwis also had the best bowling figures with 3 for 38).

The England Women's team were sent into bat and their innings revolved around three good innings by Laura Newton (60), Jenny Gunn (49) and Caroline Atkins( 32).

Laura Newton who held the batting together with Jenny Gunn adding 68 for the third wicket. Later Gunn was associated in a 45 run stand with Caroline Harper for the fourth wicket that laid the platform for their final score of 206 for 9.
