Closing Regatta of CRC Nov. 19

The closing Regatta, the final rowing event for 2005 with South Asian Games poolists taking part, will be held on Saturday November 19 on the Beira Waters. The event is conducted by the Colombo Rowing Club with the blessings of the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka. The regatta will commence at 2.00 p.m.

The events to be rowed are: sculls, double sculls, pairs fours for oarsmen meanwhile there will be events for veterans too.

The trophies on offer are Harry Creasy Cup, Colvin Sirimanne Trophy, Cyraine Cup and Veterans Trophy.

The postponed North-East Monsoon Regatta was held last Sunday on the Beira Waters (this event was to take place on October 15 but due to water hyacinth being overgrown on the Beira Lake it was postponed).

Malik Aziz and Reza Akram of Royal College carried away the most prestigious trophy- V. A. Julius Trophy winning the Men's Pairs. Aziz (B) and Akram (S) combined effectively to win the event defeating Old Joes combination of Yohan Corera and Chrishan Silva. The winners timed 3.43 secs.

Chrishan Silva of Old Joes took the Sculls event and was presented the Herman Sirimanne Trophy. Musaeus College rowers performed well to win both the Ladies Scull and Ladies fours and they were awarded the President Trophy and Ladies Plate respectively.

Uvini Atapattu, Musaeus College captain, won the Ladies Sculls while Uvini together with Hiroshi Goonawardena, Sachithra Jayatilake, Naduni Perera and Menaka Kohonna won the ladies Fours event. The Firms pairs went to Chanaka Talpahewa and Yohan Corera (Lawyers) defeating Kushal Abhayaratne and Sanjeewa Perera (HSBC).

The Colombo Rowing Club rowers have confirmed their participation at the Amateur Rowing Association East Regatta to be hosted by the Madras Boat Club on December 17 in Chennai, India. The CRC oarsman and oarswomen are training under Chanaka Wickramasooriya, the Captain of Boats and coach on the Beira Lake.

The events to be held are Men's 'A' Sculls, Men's 'A' Pairs, Men's 'B' Sculls, Men's 'B' Pairs, Men's 'A' Fours and Men's 'B' Fours, Ladies pairs, Ladies Sculls, Ladies Fours and Veterans Fours.

Four leading Clubs from India, and teams from Hong Kong, Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand are expected participate at the ARAE Regatta.
