Chinese delegation here to explore trade

A ten- member business delegation from China is now in Sri Lanka to explore business opportunities on the personal invitation of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Macky Hashim.

The delegation was organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) for the first time to South Asia and in particular to Sri Lanka to express confidence in the new President Mahinda Rajapakse and the new government and to explore opportunities in the areas of trade, industry, investment and finance.

The leader of the delegation Zhang Ruikhan said that the Chinese Prime Minister has advised Chinese businessmen to enhance their presence in Sri Lanka in various fields after his visit to the country.

He said that at present the Unnan province has some business links with Sri Lanka and that they are interested in furthering the ties to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

Vice General Manager China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation, Lin Bin Unnan branch said that they have branches all over China and that they are interested in promoting trade relationships between the two countries initially through their information network.

We are encouraging Chinese investors to invest in Sri Lanka and are hopeful that we can work together to promote economic and trade ties between the two countries.

Vice Secretary General CCPIT Ms Tan Yun said that they don't know much about the natural resource reserves in Sri Lanka but was interested in promoting trade and investment between the two countries.

Hashim said that the visit was made possible due to the signing of the MoU in Unnan and attending the industrial exhibition.Secretary General FCCISL Samantha Abeywickrama gave an overview of the FCCISL and assured that in the event an MoU is signed between the Unnan province CCPIT and the FCCISL everything possible will be done to explore and forge relationships between the businessmen of the two countries.

FCCISL President Nawaz Rajabdeen assured his fullest support to the delegation and said that there are many opportunities to explore for businessmen of the two countries.
