Prelate confident President will usher in new era by Amanda Pathiraja, S.T.B. Senaratne and Indika Rangajeewa President Mahinda Rajapakse has courage and dedication to lead the nation to reach a political solution to the ethnic conflict, Adikarana Sangha Nayaka of the North Central Province of the Siyam Nikaya Malwathu Chapter, Chief Incumbent of Lankaramaya Ven. Ralapanave Dammajothi Thera told the President when he paid homage at Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi yesterday. President Rajapakse yesterday visited Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi on his maiden visit after being sworn in as the fifth Executive President. The President offered atapirikara at the Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi and received advice from the Chief Incumbent of Atamasthanaya, Ven. Pallegama Siri Niwasa Thera. "The President has completed an ambitious journey from deep down to the country's topmost political position. He got all ingredients in him to guide the nation to a solution to the ethnic conflict," Ven. Dhammajothi Thera said in his sermon. He said the President should strengthen cultural and political relations with India and seek Indian assistance in his government's effort to negotiate a political solution to the ethnic conflict. "King Dutugemunu defended the country and rendered an immense service to the Buddha sasana. President Rajapakse who overcame obstacles on his way to the Presidency can also guide this nation to a new era," he said The President also paid homage at the Ruwanveliseya stupa and Isurumuniya. He met the Sanghanayaka in the North-Central Province of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyam Nikaya, Ven. Nugethenne Pagngnananda Thera, who chanted seth pirith blessing the President and the nation. |
