Sri Lanka, Thailand celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations A series of events have been organised by the respective Foreign Ministeries of Sri Lanka and Thailandand Embassies in the two countries to mark the 50th anniversary of establishing formal diplomatic relations which took place on November 20, 1955. The Thai embassy in Sri Lanka will celebrate this event on the 29th of November with an official reception with the Minister of Foreign Affairs as the Guest of Honour. A Thai Food Festival coupled with Thai Cultural Performance will be held at the Hotel Hilton from 25th November - 04th December 2005. A seminar on Thai Sri Lanka relations will also be held early next year, a media release issued by the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka said. The Sri Lanka Embassy in Thailand is arranging several events such as co-hosting celebrations, with a food and dance festival, a Sri Lanka day at Chulangkorn University, a dance recital at Siam Society and a Seminar on Thai-Sri Lanka relations at Chulalangkorn University in Bangkok. The recent high level visits such as the Prime Minister of Thailand to Sri Lanka in 2003 and the former President of Sri Lanka to Bangkok in 2004 for the BIMST-EC Summit, as well as numerous ministerial visits have contributed to the enhancement of relations between the two countries. In regional and international forums, Sri Lanka and Thailand have co-operated fully with each other. |
