Army ruggerites suspended

Two ruggerites who assaulted and abused the referee at an Inter-Regimental game of the Army at Galle Face recently, has been taken to task by the Council of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU).

The Disciplinary Committee of SLRFU headed by Neil Wijeratne and also comprising Metha Abeygunawardene and Saliya Udugama, had recommended a two-year suspension on the player who assaulted the referee and an one-year suspension on the player who used abusive language.

These recommendations were ratified by the SLRFU Council at a meeting last morning.

Meanwhile, the SLRFU President, Priyantha Ekanayake, will represent the country at the Council meeting of the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) to be held in Lahore, Pakistan on December 17.
