"I consider these tractors and trailers which were donated by UNDP under the project Capacity development for Recovery Program (CADREP) gifts that would strengthen the capacity of local bodies," said Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon recently at a ceremony held at BMICH to distribute 63 tractors and trailers to 63 local bodies.

UNDP Country Director Miguel Bermeo said," A considerable work is still to be done in terms of rehabilitation and reconstruction in the medium and longer term.

In this context, UN and International Community have developed transition strategies for relief and recovery . UNDP has tasked to provide assistance to local administration in building and enhancing capacities to be able to plan, implement and monitor and manage events has to happen.

That is the genesis of the CADREP project aimed at promotion of good governance, efficiency, effectiveness, responsiveness and transparency and transparency". The program will also provide donor linkage on capacity development for recovery as well as mechanism to support the integration of specific UN initiatives in strengthening governance and civil society, micro-enterprise and livelihood development, information management and disaster risk management.
