31 shuttlers off to Singapore

Thirty-one junior shutters (16 boys and 15 girls) accompanied by five officials left the country to compete at the Cheers Youth International Badminton Championships to be staged in Singapore from December 12 to 17.

The players in the Under-13, 15 and 17 categories were picked after their performances at the recent Junior National Championship and are being accompanied by two coaches in E. E. P. Karunaratne and Renuka Welivitigoda with the Tournament/Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools BA, Ananda Siripala, as manager, Ranjith Premasiri as Assistant Manager and Kanthi Batuwatte as the Lady Chaperone.

Boys under 13: Thanura Dakshitha (Dharmasoka), M. A. S. Sandaruwan (President's Maharagama), S. Nugaliyadda (St. Anthony's Katugastota) D. L. Madusha (St. Peter's Colombo).

Boys under 15: Nuwan Hettiarachchi (Ananda), Lakshitha Maduwage (Dharmasoka), Menaka Wijeratne (Richmond), H. S. Perera (Dhamaraja), Dilshan Kariyawasam (Ananda).

Boys under 17: U. L. Nayanakantha (Ananda), D. N. S. S. Gunawardena (St. Anthony's Katugastota), C. Gunawardena (Nalanda), V. L. Subasinghe (S. Thomas' Mt lavinia), Amila Fernando (Devananda), S. A. Wahala (Richmond), Udara Nayanajith (Anuradhapura M.M.V.).

Girls under 13: Lekha Sehani (OLV Moratuwa), Lashini Sehara (Dharmasoka), Achini Ratnasiri (Lindsay).

Girls under 15: Nayomi Karunaratne (Visakha), Hashini Perera (Anula, Nugegoda), Thanoja Perera (Anula Nugegoda), Sandaru Weerasinghe (Musaeus), Akila Jayamanne (Musaeus), Chameka Madurawa (Mahamaya Kandy), Prabaswari Pushpachaya (Dharmasoka).

Girls Under 17: Gayani Perera (Anula Nugegoda), Subodha Dahanayake (Musaeus), Dinusha Jayamanne (Holy Cross Gampaha), Bimalka Wimalasinghe (Anula Nugegoda), Manosha Chandrasena (Lindsay).
