Rs. 2.34 b Swedish assistance The Swedish Government has extended the period of the Development Cooperation Agreement with Sri Lanka with a commitment of grant funding amounting to Swedish Kronor 180 million (approximately Rs. 2.34 billion) for 2006 and 2007. This is an extension of the current Development Cooperation Agreement which was signed in 2003. The priority areas for funding under the Swedish Development Cooperation are to promote peace, democracy, human rights, pro poor growth and contribute for the rehabilitation of areas affected by the tsunami. This agreement sets out the general terms and conditions for the provision of the development assistance to Sri Lanka. The projects to be funded under the Swedish Development Cooperation will be identified jointly by the two Governments within the priority areas. The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. P. B. Jayasundera signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Sweden Jerker Thunberg signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Sweden. Mrs. Sujatha Cooray, Director General of the External Resources Department was also present. |
