In addition to the twenty houses, the District 306 A 2 also laid foundation for 50 more houses to be constructed at the same venue.

The District 306 A2 also laid a foundation stone to construct an Elders' Home at Alubomulla, Pamunugama at a cost of Rs. seven million for the benefit of tsunami affected elderly persons. Meanwhile another foundation stone was laid by the Lions club 306 A2 at Bandargama hospital premises for the construction of a diabetic centre.

Speaking to the Sunday Observer, District Governor Lion Rohantha de Fonseka said that in addition to the houses, their club expected to provide all recipient families with start up kits (furniture, household items and kitchen utensils) to the value of Rs. 20,000 each.

He said another housing construction program to build 480 houses for tsunami affected families in the Southern Province will also be launched by the Lions Club District 306 A2 in the near future.

According to the program, 200 houses will be constructed at Hambantota, 175 houses at Matara and 35 houses at Kahawa Modera.

"The houses will be handed over to the recipients in April next year under the supervision of the Divisional Secretariats," he added.
