State visit to India by President Mahinda Rajapakse President Mahinda Rajapakse and Mrs. Rajapakse will pay a state visit to India from December 27-30, 2005, in response to the gracious invitation extended by His Excellency Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President of India. In a press release issued in new Delhi on December 16, 2005 concerning the forthcoming visit, the Ministry of External Affairs of India Stated, "Indo-Sri Lanka relations are excellent. There is very good understanding and interaction at the political level; trade and investment is expanding rapidly; the institutional framework linkages are being augmented; and people-to-people contacts have intensified". During the visit, President Rajapakse will meet with the President, Vice President and the Prime Minister of India, while also interacting with other senior Indian political leaders and eminent personalities. President Rajapakse is looking forward to identifying in association with the Indian leaders, ways and means of further strengthening the warm and close relations between the two countries. |
