Eagle among best corporate citizens

Eagle Insurance Company has again been hailed as one of the ten Best Corporate Citizens in Sri Lanka by he Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. This is the second successive year that Eagle was selected for the award having been accepted as one of the best companies practising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Eagle vied with leading corporates for the Best Corporate Citizen award initiated by the Chamber of Commerce to reward organisations which promote and practise ethically and socially responsible behaviour and are currently practising CSR. The company's environmental, social and economic performance was taken into account in assessing its CSR activities.

Among the most recent CSR initiative undertaken by Eagle was the sponsorship of the awareness creation of the Colombo Municipal Council initiative (Emergency Rescue 110) to provide a free 24 hour ambulance service for the city to improve the survival chance of accident victims.

Eagle also became the principal sponsor of the National Civilian Bravery Award presented by the Foundation for Civilian Bravery. Eagle's sponsorship of the annually held event is a part of the company's endeavour to appreciate and acknowledge human compassion and bravery with the objective of encouraging the nation to value selfless actions.

Explaining the Company's approach to CSR, a spokesman for Eagle Insurance said that the company had in place a stated policy on each of the aspects considered for the award. In environment, the company attempts to create and sustain a safe, secure and environmentally friendly working place.

The policy expressly states as an objective, 'to reduce levels of waste materials and other sources such as paper, fuel, electricity, thus contributing to the protection of the environment'. Towards this, the company has built a company-wide Lotus Notes based communication platform linking twenty-five regional offices together. This step has contributed significantly towards the paperless office concept.
