Mahamodera C. W. W. Kannangara blossoms out
The Tsunami devastated C. W. W. Kannangara School at Mahamodara in Galle was rebuild by the Gateway College Management, fulfilling their pledge they made just after Tsunami stuck exactly an year ago. The ceremonial handing over of the School took place last week with the participation of the Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, Southern Province Governor Kingsley T. Wickremeratne, Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva and several distinguished guests. Gateway School's Chairman R. I. T. Alles after handing over the school to the Prime Minister said that in rebuilding the school they were assisted by schools, organisations and the public with their handsome contributions to the "Gateway Fund for School in Need". He was beholden to the UK based `Daily Mail' newspaper readers for their help. Among the rebuilt facilities were twelve classrooms, an administrative block, an auditorium, a library, science and computer laboratories, an aesthetic unit and a bookshop. (DW)
