TNA, CWC to draw future action plan Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentary Group Leader R.Sampanthan told the Sunday Observer that the future alliance between the TNA and the Ceylon Worker's Congress would be based on the mutual interests of both the Northeast and up country Tamil people. He said the new broad-based alliance would be built on democratic principles. Sampanthan said that at the talks held between the TNA and CWC leaders on Dec. 19, in Colombo, it was agreed to cooperate with each other on issues affecting the Tamils, initially in Parliament and later in public. He said the leaders exchanged views on the present political situation. The TNA leader said that the CWC had worked together with the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) earlier. S.J.V. Chelvanayagam formed the Federal Party after the disfranchisement of Indian Tamils by the D.S.Senanayake government. He said the aspirations of the people of North East and plantations are varied, but the TNA and CWC could work together in addressing their problems. A committee, comprising TNA Parliamentarians Joseph Pararajasingham and Suresh Premachandran, CWC Parliamentarian M. Sachchithanandan and R.Yogarajan was appointed to draw the future action plan. R. Yogarajan said that the committee would be expanded with two representatives each from the Up-country People's Front led by Parliamentarian P. Chandrasekeran and Melaga Makkal Munnani (the new name of the Western Province People's Front) led by Parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan. (MPM) |
