'LTTE should not create troubles'

by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

Most. Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatta Maha Vihara Chapter said that the government headed by President Mahinda Rajapakse has not neglected or deviated from the efforts being taken to usher in peace. The LTTE should not create troubles at a time like that. It is not more than one month since the new President took over. It is necessary to give some time to the government to solve problems.

Creating problems that would harm the government's efforts to bring about peace, could not be condoned. Such activities are unwarranted and unsuitable, he added.

Most Ven. Mahanayake Thera made those observations when Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake called on him to receive his blessings. Prime Minister Wickramanayake also visited Dalada Maligawa and paid his homages to the sacred Tooth Relic and also called on Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratanapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter and received blessings.

At Malwatta Most. Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera added that he felt that President Mahinda Rajapakse was getting ready to create a good governance in the country and since independence the best programme of work ever put before the country was the 'Mahinda Chinthana' of President Rajapakse, in which a larger quantum of expectations of the people is included.

Providing fertilizer at Rs. 350 a 50 kg bag in keeping with that programme to encourage the farmer was of great importance and commendable, the prelate added.

Today's most important problem that has to be given top priority was the peace process. That was to find ways and means to end the North and East problem and the war and bring about lasting peace. It was seen that the President was setting the support of other political parties including the UNP in his effort to achieve peace. It was a very good sign.

The prelate added that the government should take all possible steps to retain the support of those political parties and of the UNP in particular until they found a solution. He also requested the UNP too to extend their support to the government till then.
