More clashes in Jaffna by Ranga Jayasuriya Army yesterday evening shot dead four LTTE cadres who fired at troops engaged in search and clear operations in Jaffna Fort area. The gun battle erupted when the army carried out a search operation in the area after an officer and a soldier were shot by LTTE gunmen around 6.10 yesterday evening. The troops killed four LTTE cadres in the gun battle and recovered a Tombo gun and 9mm pistol. The four dead include one female cadre, an army official said. The wounded officer and soldier were admitted to the Palaly Military Hospital and the Jaffna teaching hospital respectively. Meanwhile a soldier was injured in Irupalai, Jaffna in a grenade attack at an army check point yesterday afternoon. |
