Senior journalist Florence Wickramage (67) of the Daily News passed away on December 30. She received a Presidential Environmental Award for her services for the environmental field a few months ago.

In 2003 Florence received the Editors' Guild Award for the Best Environmental Reporter of the Year. In 2004, she was honoured with the Green Golden Award in appreciation of her valuable contribution to the field of environmental conservation.

Counting over 15 years of service at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Florence functioned as the Chief Coordinator of the Asia Vision. She also served as a news reporter, news editor, continuity announcer and program presenter.

During this period she represented the SLRC at many national and international fora. Funeral will take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the General Cemetery, Kanatte. Remains are lying at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour.
