Sri Lanka Mission in Cuba commemorates first anniversary of tsunami On the December 26, Sri Lanka Mission in Havana, Cuba organised Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic Multi Faith Religious Observances in Mission premises to commemorate the first anniversary of tsunami to remember all tsunami victims. For this event, with the Embassy staff, among the distinguished gathering were, Mitra Vasisht, Ambassador of India, Indra Cahya Sempurnajaya, Ambassador of Indonesia, Zainol Abidin Bin Omar, Ambassador of Malaysia, Fidele Diarra, Ambassador of Mali, Luigi Bonazzi, Archbishop, Gilberto Silveira Hassam from the Islamic Centre, Representatives of the Cuban Foreign Ministry and other Institutions, journalists and Cuban citizens. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Havana Kirthi Sigera, delivered a speech covering the background of tsunami disaster and the progress made in various fields in rebuilding the nation and also thanking all who assisted Sri Lanka in the hour of distress and especially expressed his appreciation to the President of Cuba, Dr. Fidel Castro Ruz and the Cuban Government for sending a Medical Brigade and medicines to Sri Lanka. |
