Hyundai Sonata, Tucson achieve highest safety rating The 2006 highest safety rating was achieved by Hyundai Sonata and Tucson vehicles in the United States. The rating was conducted by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which carried out the top five star crash tests rating for front and side impact of vehicles. According to a spokesman for the Hyundai Motor Company these results reflect Hyundai Motor Company's commitment to lead in the standard application of the industry's most effective safety technologies. "Hyundai quality is our first priority and this is reflected in the safety of our cars", said Kim Sang-Kwon, Hyundai's Vice Chairman, Engineering. "These five star NHTSA crash test results demonstrate that our Hyundai Sonata and Tucson are second to none in terms of safety", he said. The 2006 Tucson SUR and new Sonata mid size Sedan, are setting standards for safety in their segments in the US market. Tucson was the first vehicle under $20,000 with standard electronic stability control six air bags while Sonata is the only mid size Sedan with standard Electronic stability control and six airbags. Both have received numerous accolades including Tucson's "Best value car award winner" from the Smart Money magazine and Sonata's "Automotive excellence in safety award from popular mechanics". Hyundai Devoted 300 new Sonatas to internal crash testing to ensure the Sonata attained NHTSA's five star rating in front and side collisions. The Tucson is engineered to provide its passengers with multiple defensive layers. The steel unibody has been designed in crumple zones and a high-tensile front sub-frame that are designed to work together to reduce the forces that reach the passenger compartment. To help resist intrusion, four structural rings encircle the body. All four doors also have internal guard beams to protect passengers in a side impact collision. The Tucson's passenger restraint systems help minimise injury. Three point belts are provided at all five seating positions and the front seatbelts have pre-tensioners and local limiters. It also has two outboard rear Latch child-seat anchors. Motor sport enthusiasts go for Suzuki Swift 'Suzuki Swift', the brand new car has become the 'motor sport enthusiast's car' in Sri Lanka. Suzuki Swift, Suzuki Liyana and Suzuki Grand Vitara have drawn the greatest attention of vehicle lovers of the Suzuki range which is being displayed in the Suzuki state of the art computerised showroom at Borella. 'Undoubtedly the brand new Suzuki market share of the brand new vehicle market in Sri Lanka has increased sharply during the last few months after the takeover of Suzuki sales by AMW', a spokesman for the company said. He said that increased vehicle sales as well as the vast number of customers who visit the Suzuki showroom daily at Borella is an indication of the popularity and the high image of the Suzuki brand. Suzuki's compact car 'Swift' was awarded the 2006 RJC car of the year hosted by the researchers and the Journalists Conference of Japan (RJC). For Suzuki this is the second following on Wagon - R (1993) which was the only prized mini-vehicle in RJC history. Suzuki 'Swift' was developed with a concept of Bold style and Dynamic drive with key-wo "Styling" and "Dynamic performance". It is the first Suzuki's world strategic model in Japan, Hungary, India and China and is marketed worldwide. It pursued 'dynamism' in styling and dynamic performance which offers fun to drive. It combines 'life' and 'fun to drive' at high levels. The sales of 'Swift' are growing steadily in every market supposed to achieve accumulated 200,000 units production in 2005. The "Car of the year 2006" title was also awarded by Suzuki Swift in Iceland last month. Suzuki Grand Vitara and Suzuki Liyana are imported from Japan. Emphasizing the specialty of Suzuki Liyana, a spokesman for AMW said put aside everything told about Sedans and understand the new thinking behind the Suzuki Liyana Sedan. "It starts with a taller cabin which provides more room for passengers, luggage and ideas. It's evident in the style - a unique triangle design motif that sets the 'Liana' apart. Once you get behind the wheel the difference accelerates. Think Sedans are cut from the same mould? Take a different view in the Liana", he said. Chery the latest to hit Lanka's auto market Chery which is the popular size car among Sri Lankan car lovers is the latest arrival to Sri Lanka's auto market. Three Cylinder - DOHCMPI - 12V - Petrol 812 CC engine 'Chery' is imported from China and marketed in Sri Lanka by David Peiris Motor Company (DPMC) which entered the second decade of business last year. David Peiris Motor Company launched the new Chery QQ 800 CC 5 door hatch back car to Sri Lanka market recently. Chery is manufactured in China by the Chery Automobile Company of China, founded in 1997. Though comparatively a young company the Chery Automobile Company manufactures 350,000 units per annum and it is believed that the Chery Automobile Company is the fastest growing independent auto maker in China. It partnered with top engineering firms such as Lotus Engineering of UK and leading Italian style and design entities such as Bertone au Pininfarina. The quality of the Chery QQ has gained the credentials of the J. D. Power's quality study for compact cars carried out in China, which has awarded it the No - 1 position.
