The bridge from where the breathtaking view on the cover was taken

Have you heard of Kalmunai? Well its a town on the north Eastern coast of the island. Kalmunai has a wonderful sea stretch and superb coast. Although during the tsunami the coast was virtually gone, it has now picked up and is slowly gathering momentum.

Water is scarce, and many villagers have to queue up to obtain their supply of water.

Our cover picture shows the breathtaking view of the placid waters of the coast in Kalmunai, taken by cameraman Tilak Perera. The town itself is busy at all times and is now limping back to normalcy.

Schools have begun to function. The common mode of transport in the North and East, is the bicycle, and some of the residents could be seen cycling to and from work.
