Three
militants with Kashmir links arrested
MUMBAI, Jan 7 (AFP) Police in the western Indian city of Mumbai arrested three militants Friday with links to rebel groups fighting Indian rule in Kashmir, a top official said. The anti-terrorist squad of Mumbai police caught the three men when they arrived in Mumbai by train Friday. "Our team tracked the three when they stepped out of the Mumbai Central railway station and later picked them up," Mumbai police chief A.N Roy told reporters. Roy said the men had connections with militant outfits in Kashmir, but he did not name any particular group. "We had specific information that three men linked to Kashmir militant groups were planning to enter the city with intention to spread their terror network here," he said after police paraded the three men with their faces covered before photographers. The police chief said that one of the militants was wanted in a bomb blast and a bank robbery in Srinagar, capital of Indian Kashmir. At the time of their arrest, the men were carrying electrical equipment, detonators and remote control devices. The official said police were investigating to find out the militants' affiliations. Roy said his team got the tip ahead of year-end celebrations when Mumbai police had upped the security for the festivities. Earlier this week, police arrested three militants in the southern cities of Bangalore and Hyderabad. |
