Aviation to represent Austrian Cargo
by Elmo Leonard Dart Aviation (Pvt) Ltd, Colombo, an offshoot of the Dart Expressway Group will now represent Austrian Cargo as its general sales and services agents for Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Austrian Airlines is said to be the only European national carrier that currently calls in Sri Lanka, on Thursdays and Saturdays, via the Maldives. Austrian will increase its flights to Colombo, three times weekly, beginning with its summer schedule, the airline's regional manager for the subcontinent, Ms Vinita Singh said. Austrian operates to 130 destinations, in over 60 countries, covering five continents. Austrian continuously optimises its route network, to cater to its customers and offers optimal connections from and to Western, Central, and Eastern Europe, Asia, China and Japan, Australia and North America and the Middle East, head of Austrian Cargo, Robert Stainoch said. The Dart group commenced business in 1970, in Hong Kong, which still remains its headquarters. Since its inception, the group has focused on expanding its branch network globally to service their customers more effectively, expanding into North America, the Far East, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. The Dart Express International Holding Company is expected to go for a public listing in the Singapore Stock Exchange, this month. The group is present in 27 countries with 47 branches worldwide. Dart Express Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, began its operations here in 1983, Charles Wijesundera who heads the company said. The company has now expanded to the West Asian region, Middle East and Africa. The group has grown and expanded rapidly, today, to provide a host of services ranging from international forwarding to multi-model and logistic services, and warehousing. The company has ventured successfully into many other areas such as Airline representation in Sri Lanka and overseas, inbound and outbound travel. As one of the leading international foreign forwarders in Sri Lanka, it has membership of IATA, as well as ISO 9002: 2000 certification and can account for at least 10 percent of the total airfreight market from this country. |
