Dialog launches BlackBerry platform

Dialog Telecom (DT), the leader in the mobile telephone industry launched the world renowned BlackBerry platform in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

DT has offered BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry 7100g Handheld and BlackBerry 7290 Handheld to mobile professionals in Sri Lanka for the first time. BlackBerry is a product of the Canadian technology company Research in Motion (RIM)

BlackBerry mobile devices enable easy access email, phone, text messaging, internet, organiser and corporate data applications. BlackBerry is a world leader and is making rapid strides in many international markets.

BlackBerry, a proven and popular wireless solution offers the best mobile experience for users who want access to voice, email and data services from a single wireless device, said RIM Vice President Asia Pacific Norm Lo.

The business opportunities in Sri Lanka's market have led to a high demand for professionals being connected and informed.

"We are very pleased to launch BlackBerry in Sri Lanka", he said.

BlackBerry 7100g and BlackBerry 7290 are designed for the needs of mobile professionals. The two wireless handheld features an easy-to-navigate user interface, quad-band functionality, 32MB memory and Bluetooth support.

The BlackBerry 7290 and BlackBerry 7100g are available at the DT head office, and Odel and Crescat outlets.

The company will provide free insurance cover for the first 50 users. Easy payment facilities are available through the HSBC.

The first BlackBerry was sold to Brandix Director Aslam Omar and the second to the Canadian Acting High Commissioner Sanjeev Chowdhury.

Chowdhury, the sales rep of the Canadian RIM explained the popularity of BlackBerry in Canada and added "enjoy the great opportunity and grab it" (GW)
