by Ananda Kannangara

The members of the Bakeer Markar Centre for National Unity (BMCNU) at their Annual General Meeting held in Colombo last week stressed that all political parties and ethnic groups in the country irrespective of their caste, creed or religion must get-together at this crucial moment and join hands with the sole objective of overcoming the present situation in the North and East.

The BMCNU is of the view that it is the duty of all concerned to help the Government's endeavour of bringing a lasting solution to the present crisis.

While condemning series of unlawful incidents occurred in the North and East in the past few weeks, BMCNU, President Sarath Kongahage said that people will not allow anybody to drag the decades old unresolved problem further.

BMCNU, Secretary M. N. M. Ameen said that people in the country highly admires the principles of democracy and their only intention is not to destroy the country but to protect and strengthen it.

BMCNU members A. H. M. Azwer and Ivan Kevitiyagala and the son of former Speaker Imitiaz Bakeer Markar were also present on the occasion.
