Drop in violence A marked drop in violence was observed in the volatile North-East following government decision to re-commence talks next month, in a neutral venue Geneva in Switzerland. Military spokesperson Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe said that no major incidents were reported during the latter part of the week and apparently things are returning to normal. "There were no incidents reported during the last two or three days and we are continuing with our normal routine." Asked if there had been an increase in the security arrangements on the face of upcoming talks he answered in the negative. "We are continuing with our existing security measures and the LTTE has said they would abide by the Ceasefire Agreement. Meanwhile Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in a statement confirmed the military spokesperson statement saying there is a decrease in the violence in the island North-East. (RS) |
