A special programme has been initiated to provide houses to Jana Sevana national housing programme implemented under the 'Mahinda Chinthana' government policy to the families of poorest of the poor suffering with acute housing problems.

This programme has been implemented by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) under the guidance of Housing & Construction Minister Ferial Ashraff. This programme is to be carried out with the assistance of several institutions and philanthropists. It is estimated to spend Rs. 100,000 for the construction of each of these houses using cost effective low-cost housing technologies.

The first donation for this programme was handed over by Chairman of Vendol Lanka Group of Companies, Dr. K. Godakanda and Chairman of ASP Group, Dr. A. S. P. Liyanage to first lady, Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapakse at Temple Trees recently (1st February) with the co-ordination of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (ANCL) under the 'Dinamina Nivahana' housing programme.

The construction work of this house under the 'Jana Sevana-Dinamina' housing programme will be commenced with the assistance of these donations at Anuradhapura, Eppawala, Kiralogama village on 5th February at 11.00 a.m. under the patronage of the first lady, Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapakse.

The NHDA said that it is expected to complete the construction work of this house before the Sinhala-Tamil New Year in April.
