Royal Institute holds Convocation ceremony

Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) held its Convocation Ceremony 2006 to award degrees and diplomas to over 180 students at a function on Friday at the BMICH. Prof. B. R. R. N. Mendis, Chairman, University Grants Commission, was the Chief Guest Mrs. Rosemary Gosling, Director, External Study, London School of Economics (LSE) and Political Science, Dr. David R. K. Brownrigg, CIS Course Director, Goldsmiths University of London, from the United Kingdom and Prof. Susan Dev Emeritus Professor of Accounting of the LSE were present.

One hundred and eighty two students received their awards at this ceremony of which 112 students received their BSc. degree in Management, Economics, Law and Management, Economics and Management, Business, Accounting and Finance, Information Systems and Management, Mathematics, Computing and Information System and LLB.

Among the 70 Diplomates, there were 16 students winning special awards of medals and scholarship for their excellent performance at the final examination. The Diplomas offered were in Economics, Computing and Information Systems and Law.

This time too, the RIC recorded an excellent standard in its academic achievement with 95.7% passes among 117 students who sat the final examination.

There were 100% passes in the areas of Economics, Law and Management, Economics and Management, Business, Accounting and Finance, Information Systems and Management and Mathematics, and over 90% pass rates in the other areas.

Since the inception of the degree program, the Institute has recorded a high level of pass rates. For the past five years the average pass rate has been 97%, with 32% of graduates obtaining 1st or 2nd (upper) classes, and a further 42% getting 2nd (lower) classes.
