Inter-Association Netball in full swing

The Inter-Association Netball Tournament, the first tourney for the year 2006, got under way yesterday (Saturday February 18) at the Public grounds at Moneragala.

The tournament is conducted by the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka in association with the Moneragala District Netball Association.

Dayaratne Bandara, Sports Minister, Moneragala Provincial Council, declared open the tournament.

Altogether 23 teams, 16 combined teams and 5 mixed teams are participating in the tournament being conducted on a league basis. The combined teams in four groups and the respective winners were play in a crisscross style to find the champions. Meanwhile mixed teams play in one group and the first 2 teams were clash in the finals.

Mercantile Netball Association team and Colombo District Netball Association outfit, the winner and runners-up at the 2005 tournaments, are favoured book berths to the finals.

The finals will be played today (Sunday) commencing at 3.00 p.m. The champions will receive the NFSL challenge shields and there will be several other prizes for the, best centre court player, best goal shoot, most disciplined and promoting team and Netball Queen.

Asian Youth Netball Championships_Netball Federation of Sri Lanka, after a series of trials selected a 25-member pool which commenced training under Thilaka Jinadasa, National Junior Coach and Deepthi Alwis Assistant Coach in preparation for the Asian Youth Netball Championships to be held in India from July 24 to 30.
