Taiwan comes with relief

TAIPEI, Feb 18 (AFP) - Taiwan has pledged 100,000 US dollars to the Philippines for relief efforts after a landslide in which up to 3,000 people were feared to have died, the foreign ministry said Saturday.

"We give our concerns and condolences to the Philippine authorities and will donate 100,000 US dollars for emergency aid for the victims," the ministry said in a statement.

Medical emergency kits for the use of 3,000 people for one and a half months would also be sent to Manila destined for the disaster area Saturday, it said.

The landslide struck early Friday and ravaged the village of Guinsaugon in the south of the Philippine island of Leyte.
