Yogarajan refutes portfolio stories By Thava Sajitharan Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Deputy Leader R. Yogarajan reiterated yesterday that his party would not accept portfolios from the government. A CWC delegation including the party leader Arumugan Thondaman and Deputy leader R. Yogarajan met with President Mahinda Rajapakse on Thursday. When contacted by the Sunday Observer, Yogarajan said that nothing was discussed about accepting portfolios. "We will not accept Minister posts and the government did not offer either. We discussed general issues concerning plantation workers", he said. It was reported in the Tamil press two weeks ago that 'bigwigs' of both
the CWC and the Up-country People's Front - the two parties that have
decided to support the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance in the
upcoming local polls were to be appointed as Ministers. CWC expressed its
denial over the report the next day. |
