By Lal Gunesekara

Sri Lanka's 12 players to play in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Rugby 7's to be staged on March 31, April 1 and 2 will be picked today (Sunday) while the 15-member contingent is expected to leave for the tourney early morning on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka were not invited for the past two years (2004 and 2005), but managed to get invited this year. They fared disastrously at the recent Commonwealth Games where they lost to Australia (0-73), England (0-61) and Cook Islands (0-43) before losing to Uganda (12-23) in the quarter-finals of the Bowl category.

For the Hong Kong 7's, Sri Lanka, are in Group 'E' together with France, Australia and South Korea.

Twenty four countries will be represented in Hong Kong. In Group 'A' are Fiji, Kenya, Russia and Madagascar (invited for the first occasion), Group 'B' comprises England, Canada, USA and Hong Kong, Group 'C' South Africa, Wales, Portugal, and China, Group 'D' New Zealand, Scotland, Japan and Singapore, while Group 'F' comprises Argentina, Samoa, Italy and Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, the Tournament Committee of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), have finalised the draw for the Caltex league Championships which is being worked out on a new format this year, and is to be released during the course of this week.
