NDB Bank widens coverage through mobile banking NDB Bank continues to widen its operations in the urban and rural areas. In another initiative a mobile banking unit has been set up which will tour the outstations in a bid to create awareness of banking, to inculcate the savings habit among the urban and rural masses and provide them with facilities to transact business. "Our aim is to take the bank to the customer's doorstep. We want to make banking the most convenient operation," NDB Bank's Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking and Marketing, Indrajit Wickremasinghe said. "As a next step the mobile banking unit will go from place to place following a pre-arranged schedule. The visit will be made known in advance so that people can be ready when the mobile unit visits their towns," Kumar Gunawardena, Asst Vice President, Head of Branches said. The unit will be stationed in places where people gather so that it will be convenient for customers. Facilities will be made available to open accounts and carry out normal banking transactions. The mobile unit will be equipped with personnel and other facilities to transact business. It will work closely with the NDB Bank branches thereby helping in their efforts to widen their activities. Although the Bank has initiated a program to open a network of branches
in several parts of the country, the Bank is also looking for additional
ways and means of providing banking facilities with the least possible
inconvenience to prospective customers. Currently NDB Bank serves its
customers through 23 branches and expansion plans are under way to increase
the number of branches during this year. |
