Movies: Nilambarai - The blue sky by Ranga Chandrarathne The Premier of the much awaited and the maiden production of Nilwala Films International, Nilambarai was held last week amidst film stars and a distinguished gathering at the Savoy Cinema. Based on a popular novel by Sujeeva Prasannaarachchi, Nilambarai (blue sky) is woven around a poignant love story, which unfolded and blossomed among the rose buds in a rose garden, against the misty and salubrious climate of Hanguranketa. Nirmal (Ranjan Ramanayake), a penniless youth apparently from a bankrupt Walauva, and Samadhi (Dilhani Ashokamala), an only daughter of a millionaire businessman, falls in love in the rose garden, managed by Nirmal. In spite of intense opposition, Nirmal marries Samadhi and the story ends in a happy note. The star-studded Nilambarai would certainly be a novel experience for Sri Lankan filmgoers who are now familiar with Bollywood films and tends to change your perception on love. A young musician Kasun Kalhara Jayawardane, who composed the music for some songs are aptly matched with the theme of the film. He is the son of the famous musicians the late Ms. Malini Bulathsinhala and H. M. Jayawardana.
The film is based on a popular novel Nilambarei by Sujeeva Prasanna Arachchi and Upul Jayasinghe produced the film on behalf of Nilwala Films International, as its maiden work. It is also the maiden effort of Director Kelum Palitha Maheerathana. Nawarathana Gamage, who directed the music for the film, was able to provide the kind of music demanded by the film. Lyrics for Nilambarai were by Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe. Veena Jayakody, Sangeetha Weerarathne, Ravindra Randeniya, Sanath Gunatilaka, Anarkali Arkarsha....... Sri Lankan filmgoers will be able to watch breathtaking panoramic views of the hill country and especially upcountry sceneries against the background of the first Tea Estate, the Lulkanda Estate of James Tailor's. All in all, it gives a refreshing cinematic experience, and tends to change your perception of love and what happens when love becomes closer and closer to your heart, and the transformation it would bring about in your life. |
