Amadahara Vesak Program by Ananda Kannangara The 'Amadahara Vesak Program' will be conducted by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House) on May 12, 13 and 14 in the city of Colombo to coincide with the 2550 the Buddha Jayanthi festival. Leading public and private sector institutions, including the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Sri Lanka Telecom, Fort Police Station, Sri Lanka Air Force, Laksala and State and private sector banks will assist Lake House to conduct the program on a grand scale. Meanwhile voluntary organisations, Buddhist societies and Buddhist temples in Colombo have also extended their co-operation to make the event a success. According to the program, the Lake House Roundabout, D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha, Fort, Pettah and Slave Island areas will be decorated with Buddhist flags and illuminations during May 12, 13 and 14. A large number of people are expected in the city during this period to celebrate the 2550th Buddha Jayanthi festival. During this period, mega Vesak lanterns and pandals, Bakthi Gee programs and stage dramas will be conducted by various Buddhist organisations. The Independent Television Network will telecast and the Lakhanda Radio and City FM will make a special broadcast on the proceedings of the 'Amadahara Vesak Program'. The ANCL will also issue the 'Dinamina Vesak Magazine' in Sinhala and English on May 2 at Sambuddhaloka Temple, Fort to coincide with the 'Amadahara Program'. |
