Govt. on alert despite irritations

by Lalin Fernandopulle

The Government will focus on development during the second round of Peace Talks to be held on April 24 and 25 in Geneva. The government will discuss development activities in the North and East and how it would benefit the people, Advisor to the President and Secretary Ministry of Plan and Implementation, Ajith Nivard Cabraal said.

At the first round of talks it was agreed to take up development as the topic for discussion. Development of roads, houses, schools, hospitals and infrastructure has been badly neglected over the years due to the war.

The government is ready to fund development projects in the North and East though there were obstacles in implementing them. "The government has to face difficulties to reach at a consensus in the South. There are political forces that are motivated to sabotage the peace process, Cabraal said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his election manifesto clearly stated that he is committed to achieve an honourable peace.
