'My stance remains unchanged' - Jayalalitha

"I have not changed my stance on Sri Lankan Tamils' conflict. Sri Lanka government should create a condition where they can live with respect and dignity. Their rights should be preserved" said the TamilNadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha, addressing the media in Aandipatty. (Virakesari (VK) - 17/04)

Though complaints are being lodged from several quarters on the inadequacy for room in Nuwara-Eliya government hospital, politicians and relevant authorities are turning a blind eye on the issue.

Nuwara-Eliya hospital is the focal centre providing medical treatment for the 750 thousand people living in area, including plantation workers. People deplore that politicians pledged in the past to enhance the hospital with modern equipments and new buildings but nothing had been done so far. (VK - 17/04)

Representatives of Trincomalee Trade and Industry Forum told Investment and Promotion Minister Rohitha Bogollagama yesterday first round investigation revealed that 31 trade centres had been burnt down in the violence occurred last Wednesday in the district. The representatives met with the minister at the chief secretariat of the Eastern Provincial Council. (Thinakural - 17/04)

People's presence on streets of Jaffna has decreased immensely as the Sri Lanka army has intensified search operations in the peninsula. A person who enters the Jaffna town is checked by the forces several times. (TK - 19/04)

The LTTE informed the Norway facilitators yesterday that the prevailing atmosphere was not conducive for them to participate in the second round of talks in Geneva. (TK 21/04)

People in Jaffna have begun to shift to Vanni due to army intimidations and continuous killing of public. (VK - 22/04)

"We request the people to stay away from the camps of the Sri Lanka army for we are going to launch a series of attacks against them" said the Uprising People's Force in pamphlet circulated among the public in Amparai. (TK-22/04)
