Swarna Padma literary awards

Swarna Padma Sansadaya, an independent organisation initiated and sustained by art loving Sri Lankans domiciled in Australia who are keen to assist and promote the literature and arts of Sri Lanka with coordinators in Sri Lanka will hold their first golden Lotus Literary Awards festival on April 28 at 3.30 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Auditorium, Colombo 7.

This function will be presided by the Chancellor of Sri Jayewardenapura University, Professor Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera. The keynote speech on literature; content, purpose and its audience will be delivered by Mr. Tissa Abeysekara. The Golden Lotus Awards with cash will be given to the writers of best novels published in 2003 and 2004 and best poetry and short story collection published in 2004.

The short story collections by Keerthi Welisarage, Ajith Thilakasena, Tennyson Perera and Ajith Kalyana Amarasinghe and poetry collections by Parakrama Kodituwakku, Nandana Weerasinghe and Dharshana Ratnayake have been recommended for the final selection. In the field of novels published in 2004, eight novelists are in the final round. Eric Ilayapparachchi, Sunanda Mahendra, Erawwala Nandimithra, Gunasinghe Hettiarachchi, Samaraweera Wijayasinghe, Sarath Dharmasiri and Ms. Anula de Silva and Soma Jayakody's novels are in the final contest.

Cyril Gunaratne, Jayasree Chandrajith, Karu Liyanarachchi, Bandu Dissanayake, Laxman Weliwita and others are sustaining this project from Australia, while literary and media personnel such as Prof. Somaratne Balasooriya, Buddhadasa Galappatty, Gaminee Sumanasekara, Karu Paranawithane and Prem Dissanaike are with this project as Sri Lankan Coordinators.
