Bus fare hike from tomorrow

The recent bus fare hike would be implemented for both private and SLTB services from tomorrow (April 24). The normal bus fare has been increased by 16 percent for semi-luxury and intercity services as usual. The minimum bus fare of Rs. 4.00 would be Rs. 5.00 and it would not be changed within next five years.

According to the new tariff except the Rs. 6.00 fare, all other rates would be revised.

The Transport Ministry came to this decision considering the price hike of crude oil in the world market.

Bus operators initially asked for an increase of 26 percent and the Ministry brought it down to 16 percent. Meanwhile, the SLTB has decided to provide free transport for school children and it would also introduce a concessionary scheme for aged commuters.
