29th CIMA Business Leaders' Summit from June 1-3

The 29th CIMA business leaders' summit, this year themed 'Unleash your potential' will take place from June 1-3 at the BMICH.

From international participation last year, the CIMA Business Leaders' Summit 2006 is directed to accommodate 600 Sri Lankan participants, 40 percent CIMA members, the balance, business leaders from non-CIMA members and a few foreigners. CIMA started Sri Lanka's first flagship conference.

CIMA president, Lalith Fonseka said this year's event will help business leaders to continue their professional development and motivate them to explore how they can improve individual performances and their businesses as a whole.

CIMA is claimed to be the fastest growing UK based accountancy body, in terms of members, in the UK and worldwide and is the voice of over 85,000 students and 65,000 members in 158 countries. In Sri Lanka there are 1,700 members working in a variety of fields both in the private and public sector. There are over 12,000 CIMA students in Sri Lanka Fonseka said.

CIMA holds yearly conferences and its headquarters in the UK hosts international conferences. CIMA claims to be the only international accountancy body with a sole focus on business.

It is a world leading professional institute that offers an internationally recognised qualification in management accountancy, focusing on accounting in business, in the private and public sectors.

This year's CIMA business leaders summit seeks to explore the concepts at hand along with the practical realities of how countries and organisations can perform at the highest levels by unleashing the potential of people, CIMA deputy president, Shanthikumar Sadanandan said.

He hoped the program will attract some of Sri Lanka's key business influencers and high profile speakers from overseas.

Each year, the summit generates great interest and offers top quality profile speakers from overseas. CIMA vice president, Anura Fernando said that each year the summit generates a major impact on the way businesses and professionals conduct their affairs.

The keynote speaker for technical sessions will be Shiv Kera, business consultant and founder of Quality Learning Systems Inc, Singapore. He will speak on, 'Winners don't do different things, they do things differently.'

Dr Chintha Dissanayake, Industrial/occupational psychology consultant of the Oxford Psychometrics in Belgium, a Sri Lankan, will present her papers on 'Success - hard work or just luck?'

Elmo de Alwis, another Sri Lankan domiciled overseas, is CEO and managing director of SIGMA Pharmaceuticals (Ptv) Ltd, Australia. His presentation will be, 'Unleash corporate potential - the role of the business leader.'

Dr Rob Yeung, director, Business Psychology Consultancy, Talent Space, UK, will speak on 'Creating your personal vision.'

David White, Consultant, Whitehorn Consulting Ltd, UK, will make his presentation on 'Creating your future.'

Simon Murray, chairman, Macquarie Group of Companies, Hong Kong, will speak on 'Creating a Galaxy.'
