Happenings / People Corrine and Ronnie in concert by Mahes Perera
When a charismatic female singer and a dynamic singer/comedian get together on stage - there's bound to be an explosion! And that's exactly what will happen when Corrine and Ronnie are in 'Concert' on Sunday May 7 at the BMICH at 6.30 p.m. So make sure you are there to catch the song and humour. Corrine is not prepared to reveal all what will happen at the show. There will be musical surprises she says and chart toppers too, apart from the humourous ones. It's an opportunity that should not be missed. The Female Singer of the Year 2002 who carried off the Observer Golden Clef Music Award, Corrine needs no introduction in the music industry. Her remarkable skill and style has made her famous not only in Sri Lanka, but internationally as well. As a matter of fact she's more out of the island than in. Her recent shows in Australia drew large fans, and no sooner she finishes this concert she'll be out again I guess! Ronnie Leitch the popular singer/comedian who thrives on wise-cracking skits, has many tricks lined up his sleeve for this concert. Blessed with a fertile imagination and quick wit, there's never a dull moment with him, when he is on stage. Music will be provided by Sohan and The X'periments, the concert will also carry dance acts by Channa Wijewardena and compered by Vijaya Corea. Presented by D. K. It was a magical transformation of splendour - the ballroom of Trans Asia Hotel. The King's Court with its elegant refurbishment was formally 'opened' for action last Tuesday. Gone was the twenty-year-old ballroom with its dated and awkward interior decor, and in its place stands a ballroom that is ultra modern in style, and fabulously furnished in a dull gold and russet theme. Rich mahogany brown doors, deep black and brown mirror embedded frames decorate the walls, and the crystal chandeliers with their elegant lighting makes you exclaim an involuntary 'wow'. The shiny new cutlery and glass ware gleam with the pale gold hues reflecting upon them. At the media briefing led by Roshan Gurusinghe, the Resident Manager expressed that the King's Court refurbished by the Singaporean designers Ben Sovereign could now be used for not only the usual receptions including buffets and cocktails, dances, launches, but also for diverse conferences, since the King's Court is now equipped with modern and up market facilities which makes it highly competitive. Come Tuesday evening and you can enjoy the music stylings of Chandani and Chaminda at the Hilton Torana Lounge. The group had an auspicious start to the New Year, when according to them, they were invited to perform in France for the first time for the New Year celebrations organised by the Sri Lankan Cultural Association at the international Bataclan theatre. The festivities were organised by Lakshman Madawala and Gamini Silva. Soon after arriving in Sri Lanka the band jetted off to Jordan for a series of concert performances. "This was our second appearance in the city of Jordan,where we performed altogether five shows on April 7, 13, 14 and 15. Once again the concerts were organised by the Sri Lanka Association, the organiser being Mangala Batuwanthudawa. We had a good response, the audience was spontaneous in dancing and singing to the music. Without exaggeration at one of the shows we played non stop for about five hours. Reluctantly we returned to Sri Lanka on Monday April 17", expressed Chandani. |
