Ana's Hair and Beauty Shop:

A dream come true

by Ranga Chandrarathne

Ana's Hair and Beauty Shop which recently opened in Kirulapona is a fully equipped spacious beauty saloon, a symbol of Sri Lankan entrepreneurship. It is the fruition of a dream of a dedicated and courageous youth who entered the field of hairdressing at a time, when it did not enjoy the present professional status.

Amarasiri (Ana) who had been tired of working in an office with monotonous routine, had turned to his favourite past time, hairdressing and became an expert professional in his chosen field overcoming many hurdles with his iron determination and dedication.

It all started with a few friends and as the field was developed and did not enjoy the professional status that it enjoys today, Amerasiri's father opposed the very idea of Amerasiri's entry into the field of hairdressing.

However, he was successful in setting up his mini-saloon at his home garage with an ever growing clientele. Amerasiri's dedication to the profession and his attitude that he should provide a good service to his customers won new clients. Later the small saloon, which started in his garage, was shifted to Anderson Flats at Park Road. In the process he gained hands-on experience in hairdressing.

However, Amerasiri understood that his inborn talent in hairdressing was alone not sufficient for him to achieve professional excellence. He soon realised that he should earn international qualifications and gain working experience.

He got the opportunity to study hairdressing in Paris with the guidance and help of his brother and worked at famous French saloons and beauty shops for about three years before he was admitted to Alan' d school of hairdressing, a famous professional institute for Hairdressing in UK to sharpen his knowledge.

In the U.K he worked at famous saloons and beauty shops to gain international experience and exposure. Amerasiri came back to Sri Lanka to serve the country with the objective of providing expert service to his clients.

With the growth of his clientele, Amerasiri could no longer work alone so he employed and now the staff has also grown with the steady flow of clients. Ana's Hair & Beauty Shop not only caters to all needs but also provides professional training courses for aspiring youth at Ana's Hair & Beauty Academy to gain hands-on experience and qualification to enter the field with confidence.

The beauty shop which is built according to modern architecture provides a host of services. Unisex hair cut, colouring (tinting), perming, re-bonding, highlights, hair treatment (Lanza treatment and loreal) wella treatment, schwarze kopf, facials -aroma therapy, are some of the specialties that Ana's Beauty shop offers for its customers.
