'Mass exodus' canard floated to raise funds for LTTE Though the government immediately looked into the welfare of any persons displaced in the Sampur via direct intervention of Mr Keheliya Rambukwella Minister, and others, the Tiger front organization, TRO is carrying out a fund raising campaign allegedly for the 'victims of Sampur.'' It's a transparent LTTE effort to enrich its coffers for the war effort, obvious for the simple reason that the SLMM head Ulf Henriccson had said that 'civilian causalities as a result of the Sampur campaign are minimal.' (See our editorial and other stories.) In his observations Mr Henriccson said that there are only 16000 residents in the Sampur area, out of which just a fraction left the area after retaliatory air strikes by the government, This newspaper learns that the TRO has been feeding the media, such as BBC with the grossly false information that "around 40,000 left Sampur in a mass exodus.'' Now its learnt that this canard was deliberately spread by TRO with the aid of BBC, in order to portray Sampur as a area ''laid waste by war'' in order that the LTTE could appeal to international humanitarian organizations for aid, for 'non existent refugees.'' Observers said that ''there is no question now that the TRO is a LTTE
front organization that is manufacturing a refugee crisis to obtain funds
for the LTTE's war effort.'' |
