'Amadahara' Vesak celebrations by Ananda Kannangara `Amadahara' Vesak celebrations organised by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House) will be held from May 12 and 14 even this time in a grand scale. According to the program, Colombo Fort area will be declared as 'Amadahara Vesak Zone' and will be illuminated by Lake House in collaboration with a number of leading state and private sector institutions, in the locality of Lake House. The Buddhist weekly Budusarana will organise the program to coincide with the forthcoming 2550 the Buddha Jayanthi festival. The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has also joined in Vesak celebrations decorating the Court complex with Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and other illuminations. The Lake House Buddhist Association will hold its annual Vesak lantern competition on May 12,13 and 14 opposite Lake House and the winners will receive cash prizes running up to Rs. 600,000. 'Amadahara Vesak Zone' will cover an extensive area in Colombo with ANCL and Sri Sambuddhaloka Viharaya being the focal point.
